Agoraphobia is a type of anxiety disorder in which a person is having fear of going to crowded or open place, using a public transport like train or bus. In such situation, a person may feel trapped and helpless. He becomes restless if he is in such situation. Whenever in such situation, feel palpitations, difficulty in breathing, excessive sweating and jitteriness. Affected Person may have choking sensation and feel like he will die. So he tries to escape from such situation as soon as possible. Most people who have agoraphobia develop it after having one or more attacks of choking sensation and feeling of impending death, causing them to worry about having another attack. So he avoids the places where it may happen again. He may feel that he always need a relative or friend to go to public places. Sometimes he may feel unable to leave his home alone. Agoraphobia can severely limit the ability to socialize, work, attend important events and even manage daily life. Agoraphobia can begin in childhood. Usually, in the late teens or early adult years. But older adults can also develop it. Women are diagnosed with agoraphobia more often than men. Without treatment, some people become housebound for years. He may not be able to visit family and friends, go to school or work or take part in other normal daily activities. He may become dependent on others for help. Mostly Agoraphobia is associated with Depression, Alcohol or drug abuse, other anxiety disorders. Agoraphobia treatment can be challenging because it usually means confronting fears. But with psychotherapy and medications, the trap of agoraphobia can be broken.
